A lovely antique Victorian carved burr walnut wardrobe. We date this wardrobe to the late 19th century.
The wardrobe comes in three sections: the large hanging section, a drawer base section and a separate cornice.
The wardrobe base sits on bracket shaped feet and the wardrobe section sits firmly on the base.
The separate cornice is of a stepped design.
The front of the wardrobe is of a three panel design with a central door featuring a large single mirror, the large oblong mirror glass is thick and bevelled. There are ornate carvings above the mirror, the side sections also have lovely burr walnut panels with decorative carvings.
The door is fitted with a drop loop handle mounted on a shapely backplate. The handle turns to operate the catch. The wardrobe is fitted with locks (no key is supplied but one could be obtained if required).
The interior of the hanging section is fitted with a side to side hanging rail with sliding hooks on the bar and four fixed hooks at the rear. The interior has its original blue and tan fabric lining. The internal fabric has some expected minor wear with a few marks to the base as can be seen in the pictures.
The large drawer base has three drawers arranged two over one and they have attractive burr walnut panels. The drawers are fitted with drop handles mounted on shapely backplates.
The wardrobe has a height of 81.5" (208cm), a cornice width of 52.5" (134cm), a base width of 49" (125cm), a cornice depth of 21.5" (55cm) and a base depth of 19.5" (50cm).
The wardrobe has a hanging depth of 17 (44cm).
This lovely large Victorian carved burr walnut wardrobe remains in good condition with only minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There are a few very minor indentations to the cornice edges from past use and there is some minor wear around the base.
This remains a very stylish and elegant large Victorian carved walnut mirror door wardrobe which will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
