A lovely antique mahogany bed. We date this bed to the early 20th century.
The bed was made by Heal & Sons of London. There is a plaque on the inside bottom of the headboard for Heal & Sons makers of bedsteads and bedding, London W.
The bed come in three sections, the head and foot boards and the sprung base.
The head and foot board sit on square section legs on the original ceramic castors.
The head and footboard have arch tops and have vertical spars fitted with the foot board being lower in height.
The sprung base slots into brackets on the head and footboards and provides support for a suitable mattress.
The headboard is 50.5" (129cm) high and the foot board is 38" (97cm) high, both by 37" (94cm) wide. The overall outer length of the bed is 81 (206cm).
The bed will take a mattress 75" (190cm) long by 36" (92cm) wide.
This lovely mahogany bed remains in very good solid condition with minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage. There is a slight bit of mellowing to the finish on the bottom of the footboard due to past positioning. The sprung metal base is showing a bit of wear and has a bit of oxidisation. The base has originally been adjustable but is now set to a fixed position.
This remains a stylish and elegant antique bed which will continue to provide sweet repose for many years to come.
