Description
A lovely large bookcase. We date this bookcase to the mid 19th century.The bookcase sits on a plain plinth base and comes in three sections for transport, the base cupboard, the top glazed bookcase and the cornice.
The base section is fitted with a cupboard fitted with two side hinged panelled doors, the interior of the base cupboard is fitted with two removable wooden shelves. There are carvings to the outer sides to the top.
The top section has a stepped cornice and is fitted with two glazed side hinged doors, internally there are four fixed wooden shelves.
The bookcase and base cupboards are fitted with locks (keys are supplied).
The bookcase has an overall height of 99" (253cm), a cornice width of 49.5" (126cm) and a base depth of 20" (51cm).
The shelves have a depth of 8.5” (21cm).
This lovely bookcase remains in a good solid condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage, these include some scratches and indentations to the top surface of the base including an indent to the centre from past use. The plinth base has some indents and wear to some edges and there is a small chip to the top corner of the cornice at the right hand side.
This remains a very stylish bookcase cabinet. It could house a good sized collection of books etc. and will continue to provide sterling service for many years to come.
